Five really good fish restaurants in Munich
In recent months, a flurry of new fish restaurants have opened alongside some long-established city favourites. Here’s where to go first.

Tuna Fish Club
New this year, the super sleek Tuna Fish Club is located in the Stemmerhof, a former farm in Sendling now home to restaurants, shops and a courtyard theatre. Owned by Matthias Meyer and partners, who also operate the nearby Stenz Cucina e Bar, the intimate setting is the place to come for sharing plates of silky tuna tartar, crispy salmon bites and their signature truffle fries.
Bistro Renate
Run by Matthias Lantenhammer, Max Würz and William Semen, three friends who met when working at Mural, this laid-back bistro is a fun new addition to the Glockenbachviertel. Open since the start of May, Bistro Renate serves grilled prawns with jalapeños, cod fish burgers with shiso and Bozner sauce and deep-fried oysters . “We want to cook saltwater fish, but if one of our contacts calls with some great trout or a great pike-perch, then of course we’ll make the most of what we have here in Bavaria too,” William tells me. Don’t miss the Chinese bouillabaisse dumplings.
Ticaret
This small fishmonger close to Munich’s wholesale market has been in business for over 20 years, but thanks to a new collaboration between owner Birhan Babayigit and local chef and DJ Sven “Katmando” Christ, Ticaret is now also a buzzing bistro. The ever changing evening menu is created from whatever is left over at the end of the day and served alongside daytime staples such as fish sandwiches or the Turkish kebab with mackerel, pickles, lemon and sumac. Come for bistro vibes and a relaxed atmosphere.
Das Fogosch
Also new for May is Das Fogosch in Maxvorstadt. The latest venture of Jürgen Wolfsgruber, the Austrian chef behind Das Obers, Das Tschecherl and Michelin-starred Sparkling Bistro, this elegant restaurant has a stripped back culinary concept centred around seafood. Heading up the kitchen is Sebastian Mundstock, formerly of Jan Hartwig's three-Michelin-starred restaurant JAN, while service will be managed by Maximilian Sirek-Paul, previously at Tantris. And the name? Fogosch is is an Austrian-German term for zander.

Poseidon
While not new – this shop has been open since 1984 and run by the Mergen family for over two decades – Poseidon has been in the hands of fish sommelier Marcel Mergen since 2023. Taking over from his parents, he has brought a fresh look and feel to the space with petrol blue walls, shell limestone flooring and a tile pattern inspired by fish scales. Come for the spaghetti with seafood paired with a glass of South Tyrolean Sauvignon Blanc or their fish sandwiches - recently voted the best in south Germany by Falstaff.
Other places not to miss:
Try Fischhäusl am Wiener Platz for a hearty fish soup (temporarily closed), Pescheria for Mediterranen flair or Cevicheria Pez in Schwabing for the marinated fried octopus and fresh ceviche.
